Leroy Sane's stance on future amid Liverpool transfer links

Leroy Sane will make a decision on his future next summer, with talks between the winger and Bayern Munich over a contract extension yet to take place.

Liverpool were named as a potential destination for Sane by a report from the Mirror, which claimed the Reds have made the former Manchester City star their 'number one' target in the event of Mohamed Salah's departure next summer.

While there are reasons to be skeptical of the report, the 27-year-old has started the new season in sparkling form – six goals in seven Bundesliga games – and he has previously admitted to transfer discussions with Jurgen Klopp (albeit way back in 2016, prior to his City transfer).

According to German outlet Bild, Sane – whose contract is set to expire in 2025 – has yet to make 'a fundamental decision' his future and could wait until next summer before choosing whether to extend his contract in Munich or seek a new challenge elsewhere.

The report notes that Sane's exit would be a 'huge blow' for Bayern, with the Germany international in great form and feeling 'better than ever' at the German champions. Bild put the star's rise in form partly down to the influence of manager Thomas Tuchel who has helped get the best out of the former Schalke star.

Sane is currently well on track for a career-best season in terms of goalscoring, having never managed more than eight goals in Bundesliga campaign previously.

It is said that while Sane weighs up his options, Bayern lack of action over a contract renewal could prove costly. Bild note that no one from Bayern has sought discussions with Sane's team about a contract extension yet.

That could play into the hands of Liverpool, if their interest in bringing Sane back to the Premier League, where he spent three seasons with City, is genuine. However, the report also adds that Real Madrid are also interested.
