Leroy Sané to be offered new deal to fend off reported Liverpool interest

Any hope of Leroy Sané making a return to the Premier League may be about to hit a stumbling block as Bayern Munich look set to offer the German winger a lucrative contract extension to keep him in Bavaria.

With speculation rife about a move to the Saudi Pro League for Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, the possibility of the former Manchester City man filling the Egyptian's boots has been widely mooted, especially with Reds boss Jürgen Klopp known to be a long-time admirer.

While Liverpool have no desire to sell their talisman, with his contract expiring in 2025, an enormous offer from Saudi Arabia could nonetheless still tempt them and they would need a left-footed player to fill the void.

Sané certainly fits the profile and has started the Bundesliga season extremely well, with eight goals and six assists from 11 games.

This form has attracted a number of clubs' attention, including Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

However, Bayern Munich remain intent on keeping Sane within their ranks. "Reports of talks not taking place with Leroy Sane over new deal are fake," director Christophe Freund told SportsBILD. "He’s one of the players on whom we want to build the future of the team."

Significant salary increase

While Sané himself has indicated that's he's happy at Bayern, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes that Bayern have imminent plans to tie down Sané with a substantial contract extension.

Romano emphasised Bayern's eagerness to reward Sane's exceptional performances with an extended deal running until 2028, coupled with a significant salary increase.

Speaking to Caught Offside, Romano said: "From what I understand, Bayern’s plan is to make a very important proposal to Sane as the winger has been one of the German club’s best players this season. The new contract offered to the player will obviously add more years to his stint at the club but it will also see his salary increased, which will include bonuses. Bayern are currently preparing this proposal and they will try hard to convince him to stay."

Should the German sign this contract, any move to Liverpool would require an enormous financial outlay. Looking elsewhere for a younger player with a high ceiling would be a much more likely fit for FSG's typical recruitment strategy.
