Liverpool transfer news: Leroy Sane reopens the door to Anfield

Leroy Sane has reportedly opened the door again to a possible move to Liverpool. The Reds have long been linked with the winger.

This comes from Bild. They report that Leroy Sane has changed his mind on signing a new contract with Bayern Munich.

The winger had initially told them he'd talk about a new deal, with his current one expiring in 18 months. However, there hasn't been any movement on talks and now Sane wants to wait until after Euro 2024 this summer.

That's particularly important because he'd have under a year left on his contract. Bayern would essentially be forced to sell him if they want any kind of return - he could start negotiating a free transfer as soon as next January if they held onto him.

So why is Sane doing this? Well, he apparently wants to see the interest in him post-tournament. The winger is essentially taking a chance on his displays at Euro 2024, hoping they generate a lot of talk about him.

If so, Sane could push for a big-money move elsewhere or simply demand more from Bayern for a new contract. Of course, a disappointing tournament would do the opposite - and could cost him financially if there's a lack of interest.

Liverpool are one of the sides linked most consistently with Sane. Bild's Christian Falk reported two months ago that the Reds very much wanted to bring him to Anfield in 2024.

The door appeared to be closed with talk of a new contract. Now it seems open - maybe not wide open, but a chance is there.

Sane has been in fantastic form for Bayern this season, operating as a winger on both flanks. A spell of 10 goals in 11 games was sensational - though, the German hasn't actually scored since October.

Still, he's been Bayern's second-best player after Harry Kane and if he continues his form into Euro 2024, the interest he's after will certainly be there. And almost certainly from Liverpool, too.
