Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca has said Liverpool are one of the best teams in the world at transitions after his side were humbled 4-0 in Singapore on Sunday.

Goals from Darwin Nuñez, Diogo Jota, Bobby Clark and Ben Doak spurred the Reds on to a comprehensive victory as they produced their best display of the pre-season campaign so far.

Speaking after the game, Maresca claimed that the Foxes were punished by a ruthless Liverpool side after failing to put away their chances in the first half.

He said (via lcfc.com): “The team started very, very well in the first half an hour. We were playing good football from the back, creating chances, finding solutions, finding the space.

"Not only in the first half an hour, but also in the second half, the team always tried to find solutions to play, and it even surprised me because I was sure that the players and the team are getting better, but I didn’t expect to see the way we played in the first half an hour. It was very good."

While Maresca admitted that Leicester struggled to hold their own against a team like Liverpool, he suggested that his side were undone in the transitions as the Reds' attackers enjoyed a productive day at the office.

He said: “Then they are one of the best teams in terms of transition. We concede from that transition. The result is always important, for sure, of course, but it was important to take a look at the players, to see how they take on the idea, and they were good.

“We created two or three chances against this team. It’s enough sometimes to score without making that many chances. It was very good, but then we conceded a goal. When you do that against this sort of player, this team, it’s always dangerous.”

Liverpool next take on Bayern Munich on Wednesday, 2 August and finish their preparations for the new season with a friendly against Darmstadt on 7 August.

The Reds will face Chelsea at Anfield to kick off their 2023/24 Premier League season on 13 August.
