"Left his mark" - James Pearce on Diogo Jota's performance against Ajax
Journalist James Pearce has given his verdict on Diogo Jota's performance against Ajax at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The Liverpool forward was lively against the Dutch side. Jota registered an assist against Ajax.
Pearce spoke glowingly about the Portugal international when analysing the game.
“Diogo Jota performed like a man with a point to prove, and understandably so,” he told The Athletic.
“The Portugal international wasn’t still out there when Joel Matip lifted the gloom hanging over Liverpool’s young season with the 89th-minute headed winner that sent Anfield into raptures.
“But Jota had already left his mark against Ajax.
“Handed his first start of the season by Jurgen Klopp, he set the tone for a much-improved display in his second Champions League group game that was the antithesis of last week’s dismal capitulation away to Napoli in the first."
Anfield Watch Verdict
We completely agree with Pearce's take. Jota made Liverpool flow when they were on the attack against Ajax.
Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz seemed to work well with the Portugal international.
Therefore, we would not be surprised to see Jurgen Klopp start Jota when Liverpool next take to the field.
The Reds' Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday has been postponed due to the Queen's Funeral.
So, Liverpool won't be back in action until October. On a positive note, the Reds will have plenty of time to train and work on a few things.
We wish the team all the best for the remainder of the campaign.
