Leeds United could make a move for Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino come the summer, according to GiveMeSport's Peter O'Rourke, as cited by Anfield Edition's Twitter account.

New Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch worked with the Japan international at RB Salzburg between 2019-20.

With that being the case, the report implies that the American could look to make Minamino one of his first signings at Elland Road. The forward has been a squad player at Anfield since joining the club (53 appearances in two years).

Minamino's contract expires in June 2024. The Japan international possesses a current market value of €12 million.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Minamino has performed well when he has been given an opportunity this season. The forward has scored nine goals and registered one assist in 22 appearances.

Minamino has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 6.50 across the 2021-22 campaign.

With that being the case, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been very complimentary of the 27-year-old.

As quoted by Liverpool Offside, the German said the following last week: “He shows everything, he has everything. That’s how it is, that’s why he is our player. Taki [signed back in January 2020] came in, in a difficult time, coronavirus was there full throttle, no supporters in the stadium, in a good football team obviously which was used to a lot of things.

“Had good moments, played really good football but now he needed time and in the moment he looks absolutely on the peak of things he can do. I’m very, very happy for him that he can show that.

“Obviously there are more difficult situations than Taki’s out there in the world but it’s obviously not so easy to be in and out and sometimes these kind of things. But his character is obviously top-class, which means when he is needed or when I give him the opportunity, he is delivering on a top-class level. I’m really happy.”

The aforementioned figures/comments highlight that Minamino is capable of playing at the highest level.

Therefore, we would not be surprised if the Japan international looked for a new opportunity elsewhere come the summer.
