Liverpool FC news: Simone Inzaghi sets stance on manager's job
Inter boss Simone Inzaghi is reportedly on the shortlist at Liverpool to take over at Jurgen Klopp. Here's what he thinks about that.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Simone Inzaghi is one of the names on Liverpool's shortlist this summer. The Inter boss has his team sitting comfortably at the top of Serie A, well on course to winning the title this year.
That will inevitably have teams interested in his availability - and plenty are looking for new managers this summer. Barcelona and Bayern Munich are certainly in the market, while Manchester United and Chelsea are rumoured to join the hunting pack.
Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim have had more attention in this regard than Inzaghi but Inter's finances do make him available. Only, it appears he may not be interested.
Gazzetta report that Inzaghi doesn't have too much interest in the Liverpool job as he does not want to uproot his family. They also mention 'sporting ambitions' as a reason - though, it's unclear exactly what those are.
Simone Inzaghi doesn't want Liverpool job
Inzaghi has always been a distant contender for the Anfield job, according to reports. Still, there was a good chance that Liverpool could ultimately land on him, given the competition around Alonso and Amorim.
But those chances drop to zero if he's not 100% interested in the role. Liverpool aren't going to hire a manager who's unsure about the project and it appears Inzaghi is unsure.
It's a bit of a shame, too. He's worked wonders at Inter, taking on a title-winning side that immediately lost several key players and didn't replace them with anything like the same money. But Inzaghi has won the Coppa Italia in both seasons at Inter, as well as taking them to their first Champions League final since 2010 - and their first progression past the Quarter-finals since 2011.
Now he's set to add the Serie A title to his CV - a CV that's looking very impressive. Just not one that Liverpool will be paying too much attention to going forward, it seems.
