Ruben Amorim to Liverpool: Journalist says ‘no chance’ new reports come to fruition

One journalist says there’s ‘no chance’ that recent reports about Ruben Amorim come to fruition. The Sporting boss is linked with Liverpool.

Pedro Sepúlveda has moved to dismiss talk that Ruben Amorim could stay with Sporting CP beyond this season. Amorim has been linked with a move away from the club over the last six months, particularly to Liverpool.

But Sporting President, Federico Varandas reportedly feels he can convince Amorim to remain in place. After all, the manager won Sporting's first title since 2002 with their 2021 triumph and is now on the brink of becoming their first boss since the 1960s to win it twice.

Sepulveda, however, is adamant that Amorim will not stay with Sporting. He's committed to leaving - with Liverpool one of those leading the charge.

"Frederico Varandas, President of Sporting CP, wants to keep Rúben Amorim at Sporting, as reported by O Jogo but there is no chance," he wrote on X. "Amorim will leave Sporting at the end of the season.

"Amorim is number 1 target of Liverpool and he likes the project."

Liverpool like Amorim

It certainly does feel like a long shot that Amorim stays with Sporting. At the same time, he has openly discussed the possibility.

Though, we should add that he's made it very clear that he can't guarantee his future in Lisbon.

All signs point to him leaving, but we can't say for sure that he's heading to Liverpool. Recent talk from certain sources claims that Amorim is merely one candidate for the Reds and far from a certainty.

If that is the case, there might still be a way for this to run. Amorim is the standout candidate, however - few could argue that - and it would be a surprise if Liverpool end up with anyone else.

Then again, everyone said the same about Xabi Alonso...
