"Last season went pretty well" - Naby Keita opens up 2021-22 campaign
Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has reflected on his 2021-22 campaign.
The Guinea international performed reasonably well for the Reds last season. Keita scored four goals and registered three assists in 40 appearances.
The 27-year-old also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 6.79 across 23 Premier League appearances.
With that being the case, Keita was pleased with how last season went.
As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, he told the club's official website the following: "Last season went pretty well, I played in a lot of games, which we won. This season I would like to do the same again and play in every game I can. More than anything else, it’s just to help the team out and maybe get on the scoresheet more frequently.
"Every season I set myself targets to try to compare and compete with what I have done in the previous season. I always try to improve and achieve even more. Right from when I first started playing football, I have always been like that."
Anfield Watch Verdict
Keita has struggled with injuries throughout his entire Liverpool career. So, it was good to see the midfielder play a number of games last season.
Hopefully Keita can stay fit and go to another level next campaign. The reality is, the Guinea international offers quite a fair bit when he is fit and firing.
Keita can score, create and dribble his way past an opposition player. In other words, he can be the difference in a game of football.
It's nice to have that type of player available. Klopp didn't sign Keita from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of £54 million back in the summer of 2018 for no reason.
