LASK 1-3 Liverpool: Player ratings

Jurgen Klopp started his first Europa League campaign since 2016 off very well, yet again having to recover from a poor first-half, but doing so in style as Liverpool went on to comfortably win 3-1 against LASK.

Liverpool carried on their Premier League habits in the Europa League, with LASK taking an early lead in the 14th minute courtesy of Florian Flecker. It was a cracking finish from outside the box and it meant that the Reds had conceded the first goal for the fourth time in five games.

Klopp's much-changed XI generated a few chances throughout the second-half - most notably the Darwin Nunez point-blank header that was superbly saved by LASK's number one - but the Reds deserved to go into the break trailing after a dismal opening 45 minutes.

Nunez levelled the scores just ten minutes after the break. The Reds started to control the game and a foul on Luis Diaz inside the box granted Klopp's side a penalty, which the number nine calmly slotted into the top left corner.

Ryan Gravenverch didn't take long to show his worth in a Liverpool shirt as the midfielder provided a superb assist to Diaz to put Liverpool ahead 2-1 shortly after.

In the final moments of the game, Mohamed Salah did what Salah does best and got himself on the score sheet, after coming on as a substitute for the final 15 minutes - the icing on the cake of a solid second half.

CAOIMHIN KELLEHER (GK) - 7

Could do nothing about the fantastic strike from Flecker, and played well for the rest of the game, making a few fantastic saves.

STEFAN BAJCEITC (RB) - 5

Fans weren't expecting miracles from Stefan Bajcetic on his first Liverpool start since March, especially when he was played in a new position as Trent Alexander-Arnold's deputiser.

He picked up a yellow card in the first-half for a reckless challenge and, other than a few nice cross-field balls and well-timed tackles, didn't have the greatest comeback game before he was hooked off in the 60th minute. Fair enough though, given the circumstances.

IBRAHIMA KONATE (CB) - 6

Picked up a pointless yellow card in the first half for arguing with the referee and had to tread carefully for 60 minutes, but performed well overall.

VIRGIL VAN DIJK (CB) - 7

Probably Liverpool's stand-out defender throughout the game, Virgil looked calm in defence and very nearly provided the equaliser for Darwin Nunez in the first half.

KOSTAS TSIMIKAS (LB) - 5

It was a game to forget for the Greek international. Not only was he caught in possession several times, he looked very shaky all game and his decision making on counter-attacks was horrendous in the first half.

WATARU ENDO (CM) - 5

There haven't been many, but this was one of his poorer performances in a red shirt so far. The Japanese international looked massively off the pace, losing possession countless times and rarely finding the right pass, before being substituted in the second half.

RYAN GRAVENBERCH (CM) - 7

The Dutchman was certainly Liverpool's best midfielder on his full debut and, despite misplacing a few passes, he was strong in the tackle, good on the turn and provided an Ariel threat.

And of course, the midfielder provided a phenomenal assist for Luis Diaz in the second half, whipping the ball perfectly into the Colombian's path on the counter attack. Not bad for his first start for the club.

Unfortunately, he was unable to last the full game and was substituted through injury in the 74th minute - hopefully not one to worry too much about.

HARVEY ELLIOTT (CM) - 7

Had a great performance all things considered, but did the simple things well and kept Liverpool ticking in the midfield, particularly in the first half.

He also played a big part in Liverpool's second goal, and provided a decent attacking threat from midfield.

BEN DOAK (RW) - 5

Doak didn't quite look like his usual electric, fearless self in the first half. He had a few good moments and smart touches, but went missing for large periods of the game, before being substituted in the 60th minute.

DARWIN NUNEZ (ST) - 8

Nunez was his usual lively self in the first half, and should have had at undoubtably scored a header, if it wasn't for a wonder save from LASK's number one.

He got his goal eventually though, albeit from the spot. The Uruguayan isn't Liverpool's usual penalty taker, but he dispatched the equaliser calmly into the top corner.

To top things off, the striker picked up an assist for Salah in the final moments of the game, as Liverpool wrapped up a 3-1 victory.

LUIS DIAZ (LW) - 8

After a fairly quiet first-half, Diaz was electric in the second 45 minutes, winning the penalty for the first goal and positioning himself perfectly for Gravenberch's cross for the second, which he dispatched wonderfully.

SUBSTITUTES:

JOE GOMEZ (STEFAN BAJCETIC, 60') - 7

Liverpool looked a lot more solid on the right side once the Englishman came on - he defended well and provided an option in attack.

ALEXIS MAC ALLISTER (WATARU ENDO, 60') - 7

Liverpool controlled the ball with much more ease once the Argentine entered the pitch.

DOMINIK SZOBOSZLAI (BEN DOAK, 60') - 7

Identical to Mac Allister, Szoboszlai was boss when he came on and controlled the game perfectly from midfield. Liverpool have a pair of absolute ballers on their hands.

MOHAMED SALAH (RYAN GRAVENBERCH, 74') - 8

Showed his quality the very second he entered the pitch and was heavily involved in Liverpool's remaining attacks, as per usual.

Rounded off a superb cameo performance in traditional Salah style, getting himself a goal in the 88th minute to wrap up the win for the Reds.

JOEL MATIP (IBRAHIMA KONATE, 81') - 6

Matip came on for the final ten minutes and performed about as well as he could. He kept a clean sheet, but he didn't have too much to do.
