Kylian Mbappe 'even closer' to move away from PSG amid Liverpool links

The chances of Liverpool-linked Kylian Mbappe departing Paris Saint-Germain this summer are becoming ever greater as his contract continues to whittle down.

The Reds, of course, have long been linked with a switch for the French superstar, often being touted as one of the major suitors interested in his services.

However, due to eye-watering salary demands that would cause the complete remodelling of the club's wage structure, a move for Mbappe has never looked feasible or realistic.

The more likely destination for forward is Spain, with Real Madrid leading the chase to take on Mbappe, with some reports even claiming a deal has now been reached.

With his deal expiring this summer, the Ligue 1 giants don't have long to scrape together a compelling enough proposal to convince their star striker to stay at the Parc des Princes.

PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi isn't yet prepared to throw in the towel regarding Mbappe's departure, insisting that no final decision has been agreed upon by all parties involved.

He said: “When we have both decided, we will let you know what’s going to happen with Mbappe."

Real Madrid aren't the only ones with dreams of Mbappe at the Bernabeu. La Liga chiefs are also crossing their fingers that such a global personality will land on their shores, bringing vast expected revenue with him.

A player who looks certain to win a Ballon d'Or in the coming years, the name value in Mbappe alone will act as a major boost for the brand of the Spanish top flight.

And now, following up on Al Khelaifi's comments, La Liga president Javier Tebas believes that the transfer is edging ever closer to completion.

“I said it was around 50% some weeks ago, now is even more," Tebas said, via Fabrizio Romano. "55/60% chances? Yes, I think so.

"Every day that passes and Mbappe does not sign the new contract with PSG, the percentage increases."

Anfield Watch understands that Liverpool would only entertain a move for Mbappe in the event that Mohamed Salah were to leave the club, but with the Egyptian leaning towards staying on Merseyside, any approach for the French superstar is next to impossible.
