Kostas Tsimikas has posted a surprise update on his injury. The Liverpool left-back suffered a broken collarbone last month.

Liverpool already had problems at left-back going into December but they got a whole lot worse last month. Kostas Tsimikas suffered a broken collarbone against Arsenal, ruling him out long-term.

He joined Liverpool's only other senior left-back on the sidelines. Andy Robertson had required shoulder surgery after injuring himself playing for Scotland earlier in the season.

And so Liverpool are a bit stuck right now. Joe Gomez has been filling in at left-back but he's also the primary cover at right-back. Joel Matip's injury also moved him up the pecking order at centre-back.

The Reds have recalled Owen Beck from Dundee as an option on the left. He could feature later this month, though won't be available against Arsenal on Sunday.

But Liverpool might not be struggling for much longer. Tsimikas took to Instagram this week, posting an injury update that suggests he's not that far away from playing again.

He's now running and training on his own - the first important step before rejoining the group. "Not long now!" he wrote.

Getting Tsimikas back 'early', even if that just means early February, would be a dream. Liverpool will trust Gomez and Beck to deliver performances at left-back but they'll be unable to offer what a natural, senior left-back can.

Tsimikas can certainly do that and has already put up match-winning performances this season. Getting him back for the resumption of the Europa League campaign would be a massive bonus.

And then there's Robertson. He's certainly not expected to miss the entire season and will be back training himself before long. Liverpool shouldn't have to wait too much longer before they're actually very strong at left-back - overstocked, even.

That'll be a nice change of pace.
