Kolo Toure reveals Jurgen Klopp reaction after 2016 Europa League final loss

Kolo Toure has hailed Jurgen Klopp for keeping team spirits up after Liverpool suffered heartbreak in the 2016 Europa League final.

Liverpool saw the Europa League title and, arguably more crucially at that time, Champions League qualification snatched away from them in Basel as they were beaten 3-1 by serial competition winners Sevilla.

However, former Reds defender Toure has revealed that Klopp refused to let his head drop after the defeat - and was the life of the party that had been planned for after the match.

"After we lost the Europa League, we were all really sad, losing against Sevilla, but after the game the way he carried himself, I think that was the key moment," Toure said on the latest episode of LFCTV's Extra Time.

"We had a party after the game. No-one wanted to do anything because we were all down. At one point we all saw him on the dancefloor, he started dancing and went to each of us to bring us on the dancefloor to dance.

"This guy's mentality is all about the next game, it's all about the next challenge. As long as you give everything, he will always back you up, always give you the support. For me that was incredible. He was such a positive man.

"As you know, football is so tough and you go through tough times. You just need to think about the next day."

Toure made 71 appearances for the club between 2013 and 2016 after arriving on a free transfer from Manchester City, being part of the squad that was first inherited by Klopp in October 2015.

Getting a taste of his managerial style, the Ivorian loved his brief time working under Klopp.

Toure added: "I think the way Jürgen manages, he manages teams with a lot of energy.

"He wants the players to work and to work really hard, to run really, really hard. The first season was really, really difficult for most of the players – including me – because every session was high intensity.

"I really enjoyed the way he managed the players individually. Even players who don't start the game, they love him because he gave them the respect, he gave them the support."
