Khephren Thuram makes admission over Liverpool summer transfer links
Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram has admitted he was flattered to be linked with Liverpool during the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old was one of many players touted for a move to Anfield, during the Reds' summer rebuild.
However, Liverpool ultimately ended the window on 1 September with a quartet of midfield arrivals in Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch, while Thuram stayed put at Nice.
Transfer speculation regarding the one-cap France star has continued, however, with Juventus and Bayern Munich also linked with his signature.
Now, the young midfielder has suggested that staying at Nice was his decision, but admitted he was 'happy' to see himself mentioned as a target for so many big clubs.
He told reporters: "I think I’ve started the season well. The team has of course had a very good start to the season. I have developed aspects of my game. Regarding what happened in the transfer window, I decided to stay.
"I wanted to continue to progress at Nice, and progress as a player at this club. Honestly, it made me happy to be linked to all these clubs left, right and centre. It shows I’m doing the right things but as I said, I knew I wanted to stay here."
Thuram has started the 2023/24 strongly, with Nice leading the Ligue 1 table after 11 games, and his performances are likely to attract more attention leading into the January window.
Regarding further midfield additions to Liverpool's squad, Anfield Watch understands that the Reds will have priority for Fluminense's Andre Trindade if they choose to move for the Copa Libertadores-winning star, while Genoa's Morten Frendrup has been monitored.
