Liverpool remain in the market for a versatile box-to-box central midfield, with the likes of Khephren Thuram and Ryan Gravenberch high up on the list, Anfield Watch understands.

As revealed on FootballTransfers, Liverpool had Thuram as one of their main targets during the January window but opted not to bring in the Frenchman.

The Reds went back to the player’s camp in the spring but eventually decided not to go for a move given Thuram’s lack of Premier League experience and the exits of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, despite verbally agreeing on personal terms.

Now it is thought that they have opened up another possibility of a move for the midfielder, whose club OGC Nice had anticipated selling the 22-year-old this summer.

Manu Kone also remains liked by Liverpool but the Borussia Monchengladbach star is currently injured and is thought to be lower down the list of targets. Gladbach have always thought that the youngster would be moving on this window, too, but no offers have been forthcoming so far.

In terms of other targets, Gravenberch is looking for a way out of Bayern Munich, with Manchester United also believed to be keen – particularly as a loan deal is possible.

The Reds had been interested in Mathues Nunes, a long-standing target, but the Wolves player is pushing for a move to Manchester City.

Liverpool like Cheick Doucoure from Crystal Palace but the hefty asking price has put them off. Meanwhile, Andre of Fluminense is set to stay in Brazil and Anfield Watch has reported that any move in January is unlikely at this stage.

The club are also keeping tabs on possibilities for the backline – Joe Gomez was the subject of an enquiry from West Ham, while Virgil van Dijk will serve a suspension after receiving a straight red in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Newcastle on Sunday.

The club’s position, meanwhile, remains the same on Mohamed Salah. He is not for sale amid interest from the Saudi Pro League.
