Key Liverpool midfielder absent from squad ahead of Arsenal clash

Jurgen Klopp has been dealt a fresh blow ahead of Sunday's top-of-the-table clash with Arsenal.

Liverpool will be without Dominik Szoboszlai for the contest, with Anfield Watch understanding that the Hungarian was missing from the squad that travelled down to London.

The reasoning behind his absence is not yet clear but will regardless act as a major blow for Liverpool, who had only just welcomed back Szoboszlai from a hamstring injury last week.

It acts as another cause for concern for the Reds, potentially joining Darwin Nunez on the treatment table after Klopp revealed the Uruguayan was a doubt for the game.

"I don’t know if Darwin is available or not because after 20 minutes somebody stepped on his foot and it was very painful," Klopp said in his pre-match press conference.

"He only took the boot off after the game because he didn’t want to see it before, he knew there was something, so he left the stadium in a boot, and it was not a football boot.

"Nothing broke, X-ray clear, but swollen. We have to see if he can get this foot back in the boot or not."

However, in better news, long-term absentee Thiago Alcantara has travelled with the squad to London as he looks to return to action for the first time since March 2023.

Thiago appeared in training on Friday afternoon and is closing in on his first appearance of the season.

Mohamed Salah was also pictured going through his paces as he works his way back from a hamstring injury he suffered while at the Africa Cup of Nations - although he is not yet fit enough to be in contention.
