Amid the midfield overhaul mayhem, Liverpool kick off their pre-season campaign on Wednesday with a trip to 2. Bundesliga side SC Karlsruher.

The fixture is the first of two in Jurgen Klopp's native Germany (the other being a behind-closed-doors game against Greuther Furth next week). The Reds will then head off to Singapore to take on Leicester and Bayern Munich, before ending their run of friendlies at Preston's Deepdale for an encounter with SV Darmstadt.

Karlsruher SC are first up though, and Wednesday’s game will be the first-ever meeting between these two side.

Here's everything you need to know.

The elephant(s) in the room are Liverpool's two Saudi-bound midfielders. However, while neither has yet completed their move away from the club, only one has travelled to Germany.

Jordan Henderson is expected to play some part in the game, but Fabinho has not been included at all in the travelling squad with his transfer seemingly more imminent.

The match could also be the first opportunity to see new signings Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister link up.

Thiago is unlikely to be used as he continues his recovery from injury, but we could see a return for Stefan Bajcetic who has been injured since March.

Under-21 Euros winners Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott are still off duty following their England triumph, but there are plenty of other young talents in the squad. Academy stars: Ben Doak, Calum Scanlon, James McConnell, Marcelo Pitaluga, Conor Bradley, Bobby Clark, Melkamu Frauendorf, Vitezslav Jaros, Fabian Mrozek, Lewis Koumas and Jarell Quansah have all been included on the trip to Germany.

Predicted lineup

Here's how Liverpool could start the game against Karlsruher on Wednesday:

(4-3-3) Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Bajcetic, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Nuñez, Diaz

Prediction

Karlsruher SC 1-4 Liverpool
