Liverpool youngster Kaide Gordon has suffered another injury setback, having only just made his long-awaited return after a year and a half out.

Gordon, who turns 19 next month, had been sidelined since February 2022 due to a rare pelvic problem linked to his physical growth.

The teenage former Derby winger made his return coming off the bench during Liverpool Under-21’s 4-1 Premier League 2 defeat to Middlesbrough on 3 September, but it seems he has suffered a new injury.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Gordon rolled his ankle and is now expected to be out for a couple of weeks.

It is added that the new issue is not serious, but it is unfortunate given Gordon's long road to recovery.

The teenager arrived at Anfield back in February 2021, a deal that could rise as high as £3m and made his Liverpool first-team debut at 16 in the League Cup against Norwich in September of the same year.

His goal against Shrewsbury Town in January 2022 at Anfield made Gordon the second-youngest scorer in the club’s history, while he made his Premier League debut just a week later against Brentford.

He even started against Arsenal in the second leg of the 2022 League Cup win over Arsenal, in what was his last first-team appearance before serious injury derailed his progress.

A highly rated talent, Jurgen Klopp was complimentary of Gordon following his first senior goal in the win over Shrewsbury.

"That's Kaide. In these situations, he's really calm," Klopp said. "I will not say that for the rest of career he'll always score in these situations, but I'm pretty sure [he will] more often than not!

"Because that's just him, when a cross comes from the left side, you will find him in the box. He's good there as well – he has a nose for that, that's really helpful. I know he's the second-youngest goalscorer for Liverpool, which is absolutely exceptional, but there's a way to go.

"No problem, Kaide has time, we will give him time, he will have his minutes here and there, and if he's working as hard as he has so far."
