Liverpool take on Fulham at Anfield on Wednesday night in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi finals.

The Reds are strong favourites to make Wembley for a chance at the first piece of silverware of the domestic season, while the trophy is one of four Jurgen Klopp's side are still competing for in 2023/24.

Often seen as the lesser cared-about trophy, Liverpool's record in the League Cup over the years is still impressive.

The Reds are the record winners of the competition having amassed nine titles over the years – most recently in 2022.

Winning the trophy that year came part of an unprecedented quadruple hunt, while the Reds also lifted the cup in 2001 as part of a famous treble under Gerard Houllier.

The omens are good ahead of kick-off on Wednesday.

Liverpool have lost just one of their last 11 meetings with the Cottagers, while they can also call on recent memories of the epic 4-3 win over Marco Siva's side last month.

But how does Klopp's record in semi-finals stack up more generally?

In his eight years at Anfield, Klopp has competed in nine semis in all competitions – losing just once.

In his first season (2015/16) the German led Liverpool to the final of both the League Cup and Europa League (though the Reds would go on to lose both) beating Stoke City and Villarreal respectively in the two-legged semis.

In 2016/17, Klopp experienced his only defeat in the last four of a competition as Liverpool boss – falling 2-0 on aggregate to Southampton in the League Cup.

The following two years, though, saw the Reds blast past Roma (7-6 on aggregate) and then Barcelona (4-3 on aggregate) in consecutive Champions League semis – in two of the more memorable ties in modern Liverpool history.

In 2019/20, Klopp's side would beat Monterrey on their way to winning the Club World Cup final, while the 2021/22 season, famously, brought wins over Arsenal, Manchester City and Villarreal to reach a trio of finals.

Overall, Klopp's Liverpool final four record reads nine played, eight won, just one lost – with a goal difference of 28 scored and 17 conceded.

Reds will be hopeful of a continuation of the manager's near-flawless form in the latest semi against Fulham.
