Jurgen Klopp's 10 most used players at Liverpool

Here are the 10 players Jurgen Klopp has used the most since becoming Liverpool manager in 2015. Four boast over 300 appearances.

Jurgen Klopp is closing in on a decade as Liverpool boss. It's been an incredible run, too, with the German becoming one of the most successful managers in the club's history.

Understandably, Klopp has used an awful lot of players in that time but a few have managed to stick around longer than most.

So, who has he used the most in his spell as Liverpool manager?

Here are the top 10, according to Transfermarkt (by number of appearances).

10. Virgil van Dijk (233 games)

Liverpool first tried to sign Virgil van Dijk back in the summer of 2017 but things fell apart. Fortunately, they were able to sign the Dutchman the following January and he proved to be one of the most transformative signings in the club's history.

Van Dijk has gone on to be the world's best defender, winning several individual awards and finishing second for the Ballon d'Or in 2019.

Most impressively, Van Dijk makes it into the top 10 despite missing almost an entire season in 2020/21. He's now Liverpool captain, of course, and will go down as arguably Klopp's most important signing.

9. Gini Wijnaldum (237 games)

Gini Wijnaldum actually left Liverpool in 2021 - it's a sign of just how reliable he was that he remains in the top 10. Not bad for a signing from a relegated side.

Wijnaldum quickly became an ever-present under Klopp as a tireless presence in midfield. He helped Liverpool to both the Champions League and Premier League titles, with his brace against Barcelona in the 2019 semi-final an all-time great contribution from a Red.

8. Alisson Becker (244 games)

Alisson first caught Liverpool fans' eyes in a Champions League semi-final back in 2018 - playing for AS Roma at Anfield. He'd move to Merseyside a few months later in a world-record transfer for a goalkeeper.

He's been worth every penny. Alisson has arguably been the world's best goalkeeper ever since and he's certainly the most well-rounded. When it's all said and done, he may well go down as the best keeper to ever play for Liverpool.

7. Sadio Mané (269 games)

Sadio Mané was Klopp's big signing in his first summer at Liverpool and what a signing he was. Mané went on to become one of the best forwards in world football, and only one player has more goals for the Reds under Klopp.

The Senegal star left in 2022 as an all-time great Red and simply one of the best we've seen.

6. Andrew Robertson (275 games)

Liverpool signed Andrew Robertson for a relatively small fee after Hull City were relegated in 2017. He was never supposed to be a major signing but by the end of the season, the Reds wouldn't have swapped him for anyone.

The Scot blossomed into the world's best left-back, making the UEFA Team of the Year in 2019. One of the best value-for-money signings Liverpool have made.

5. Trent Alexander-Arnold (287 games)

Trent Alexander-Arnold is the only player on this list from Liverpool's academy and you couldn't ask for a better representative. The Scouser has won every major trophy for the Reds and revolutionised his position.

Now vice-captain, Alexander-Arnold has come a long way since filling in for Nathaniel Clyne back in 2017. And there's still so much more to come.

4. Jordan Henderson (304 games)

Only three players in this top 10 are players Klopp inherited as boss. Jordan Henderson wasn't just any player inherited, though - he'd been named captain that year after Steven Gerrard's departure.

And Henderson would remain as captain until he left in 2022. No Liverpool player has lifted more individual trophies as captain, either, and he left as an undisputed great.

3. Mohamed Salah (322 games)

Mohamed Salah will almost certainly top this list by the end of the season - he's the highest of any active player. And who better to?

Absolutely no one expected this kind of career out of Salah when he arrived in 2017. He wasn't even Klopp's first choice per reports. And yet he's been one of the absolute greatest Liverpool players ever. Unsurprisingly, Salah boasts the most goals under Klopp but he also has the most assists.

A sensational player. One of the very best.

2. James Milner (323 games)

James Milner just about hangs on to second place on this list (Salah will overtake him after the international break) and it shows just how useful he was to Klopp that he does. After all, few would have had him in their starting XI after 2017.

But Milner was capable of playing anywhere. He arrived as a midfielder but played an entire season as a left-back - and played well. One of the most reliable, professional, and hard-working Reds to ever wear the shirt.

1. Roberto Firmino (355 games)

Klopp inherited Roberto Firmino and couldn't have been more fortunate that he did. The Brazilian was the perfect player for what he wanted to do at Liverpool, becoming a False 9 and thriving as the ultimate link-man between attack and midfield.

In fact, Klopp once said people will write books on just how important he was. The boss always found room in his side for Firmino until he left in 2023 - another who left as a true legend.
