Jurgen Klopp stance on behind-the-scenes Liverpool documentary

Liverpool are said to be in talks with several parties about taking part in a behind-the-scenes documentary series. 

This week, Bloomberg reported that the Reds are willing to participate in a documentary series with a yet-to-be-confirmed production group.

There are, however, no guarantees over whether the current talks would ultimately lead to a finalised documentary.

While the idea of a series giving a peek into life at Liverpool may be tantalising for fans, Jurgen Klopp has been famously less than keen on the idea in the past.

Back in 2018, The Daily Mail claimed that while the club's hierarchy, including Fenway Sports Group chief John Henry, were keen to take part in Amazon's All or Nothing series, Klopp vetoed the plans.

The report said that Klopp was "understood to have been chiefly responsible" turning down the approach from Amazon, with the manager believing "there is nothing to be gained from fly-on-the-wall exposure and that people’s behaviour changes when they are on camera."

'I would leave the club'

A year later in 2019, Klopp publicly expressed a similar view on inside documentary access when he was asked about a viral clip of then Red Bull Salzburg manager Jesse Marsch giving an animated team talk at half-time of the club's 4-3 Champions League defeat to Liverpool.

"If LFCTV had put out a video of me in that situation, I would leave the club," Klopp told reporters at the time. "That's the truth and that's all I will say about that."

Despite those strong words, Bloomberg's report claims that Klopp has softened in the years since and could be willing to participate in a documentary series.

Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham have all been the focus of Amazon's All or Nothing series, while Newcastle, Sunderland and Wrexham are some of the other British clubs to have agreed to be filmed in off-the-field settings by companies including Disney and Netflix in recent years.

Prior to Klopp's arrival, Liverpool featured in a documentary series back in 2012, Being Liverpool, back when Brendan Rodgers was the manager.

It was broadcast by Channel 5 in the UK and Fox Soccer in the United States and is largely remembered among Liverpool fans for a scene in which Rodgers berates a young Raheem Sterling during a training session on a pre-season tour in the States.
