Jurgen Klopp reveals one way new-look midfield differs from the past

Jurgen Klopp has claimed Liverpool's midfield now has 'more goals' than in previous iterations.

The Reds have undergone a complete midfield makeover this summer, letting go of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, while bringing in Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo.

A fourth midfield arrival in Ryan Gravenberch is expected to be completed on Deadline Day, after Liverpool agreed a £34m deal with Bayern Munich.

Mac Allister (24) and Szoboszlai (22) have impressed in their early outings for Liverpool, adding dynamism to an engine room that faced criticism during the 2022/23 campaign.

Speaking in his Friday press conference, Klopp spoke of his 'love' for his young, new-look side.

"When I look at the lineup before the game...yes, we've got younger but we had to," he said, via the Liverpool Echo. "Less experienced but that's normal but we are full of desire. I love this team."

Discussing the midfield rebuild, Klopp also claimed that while his team is much less experienced, there is the potential for more goals from the centre of the park – something his side was criticised for lacking in previous seasons.

Of his midfield changes, he said: "The natural skillset is obvious but we had to change the most successful in recent history at this club: Hendo, Fab, Milly, Wijnaldum, Naby, Ox, all played big parts. You asked me if we has enough goals from midfield - we have more goals there now.

"We can play different systems and we can think about that, definitely but early in the season you keep things [going well] by not changing 12 times in four days. I think it's clear the players we have in are young, quality and in a super way really excited about this opportunity."
