Jurgen Klopp reveals favourite Liverpool signing - and he cost nothing
Liverpool's transfer business under Jurgen Klopp has been nothing short of stellar.
The German has overseen signings that have directly led to Liverpool success, with the likes of Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane all coming through the door to play major roles in the Reds' push for silverware.
You'd be right to think Klopp would have a lot to choose from when picking his favourite signing from over the years - and you'd probably assume it would be a player who's performances have far outweighed their fee, akin to a Salah or an Andy Robertson.
However, Klopp's favourite signing over the years actually cost the club nothing in terms of the transfer fee - and it isn't the famous free transfer you might be thinking of in James Milner.
The Liverpool boss has revealed that Trent Alexander-Arnold is his favourite recruitment, crediting assistant manager Pep Lijnders as the man who picked the now Reds vice-captain out.
Speaking on the Pure Football Podcast, Klopp said: "It's Trent [Alexander-Arnold]. We didn't have to buy him but Pep Lijnders my assistant brought him around and said: 'He played No.6 [role] for me. He played full-back, he played right wing, left wing'.
"Then he came and there was only one problem: Trent was not fit enough. But he was a kid so he was not fit enough but we saw immediately, wow, football-wise no doubts.
"But [he was] not fit enough so we had to work on that. But then he made steps by himself that were really unbelievable and that was really nice to see. Then he made mistakes and didn't give up."
At 25 years old, Alexander-Arnold already looks set to become a bona fide legend on Merseyside, with the Liverpool local having won everything there is to win at the club in 298 appearances.
Not the pick everyone would have expected, but a very valid choice as Liverpool's best recruit from recent years.
