Jurgen Klopp reveals Alisson's response to Caoimhin Kelleher starting the final

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed what Alisson said when he was informed that Caoimhin Kelleher would be starting in goal for the League Cup final.

Last weekend, the Reds defeated Chelsea 11-10 on penalties at Wembley to claim the trophy. Kelleher was Liverpool's goalkeeper for the majority of the League Cup campaign (three appearances prior to the final).

Alisson on the other hand only featured in one match, which is why the Irishman was given the nod to start against the Blues.

Klopp has stated that the Brazil international reacted superbly to the news that Kelleher would be taking to the pitch against Chelsea.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the German said the following: "When we told Ali that Caoimhin would be playing, Ali said, 'Okay - if we win it, he can put his head on the famous wall at The AXA [Training Centre]’.”

Klopp has stated that the AXA Training Centre possesses a wall with all of the goalkeepers that have won a trophy with the club.

We were not at all surprised to hear that Alisson took the aforementioned news well. The 29-year-old is a class act.

Liverpool signed Alisson from Roma for a transfer fee of €62.50 million back in the summer of 2018.

Since then, the Brazil international has gone on to keep 76 clean sheets in 162 appearances for the club's first-team.

Alisson has also won the Champions League, Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title and the League Cup with the Reds.

Overall, Alisson has been a fine player for Liverpool. To be fair, Jurgen Klopp did predict that the goalkeeper would be superb signing for the Reds.

“The full package is just good,” Klopp told the club's official website back in July 2018.

“How we all do, he needs to adapt to the English Premier League, that’s how it is. The league is different, the refs are different, the goalkeeper life is different in the Premier League.

“But that’s not important now because again, we got him here because of his existing strengths, which is in all goalkeeper departments the highest level.

“But of course he still has to adapt and age-wise he can improve, the best years are coming in the goalkeeper life, so it’s all good.”
