Jurgen Klopp responds when quizzed on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia pursuits

Jurgen Klopp refused to give much away when he was asked about Liverpool's pursuits of Southampton's Romeo Lavia and Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caidedo after the Reds' entertaining 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Luis Diaz broke the deadlock in the first half with a brilliant first-time finish from close range, but Chelsea struck back before the interval through Axel Disasi, who capped off a fine debut with a crucial equalizer for the Blues.

Much of the talk after the game revolved around Caicedo and Lavia, with Chelsea and Liverpool locking horns to sign the highly-rated midfielders. When asked about the Reds' links with both players, Klopp kept his cards close to his chest, while also taking a sly dig at Chelsea's spending spree under Todd Boehly.

He said (quotes via Liverpool Echo): “Where’s the camera? No (I cannot say anything),” Klopp insisted. “Oh, that (new players) is what the Chelsea manager wants, and usually they get it! I’ve got nothing to say about it, to be honest. I’m sorry.”

When asked in a separate Sky Sports interview (quotes via Liverpool Echo) about Caicedo - who the Reds agreed a British record deal worth a staggering £111m for - Klopp simply said: "No news at all".

Liverpool seemingly look set to lose out on both players, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that Chelsea have a deal in place to sign Caicedo for £115m. The Ecuador international is set to sign an eight-year deal at Stamford Bridge after agreeing personal terms with the club as early as May. As for Lavia, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri believes the 19-year-old is set to follow Caicedo to Chelsea, with the Blues agreeing a deal with Southampton worth £55m, including add-ons.

The Reds' midfield woes were highlighted in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea as they lacked protection and cover in the centre of the park. Jurgen Klopp and Co are set to lose out on two primary targets to reinforce their midfield and are running out of time to draft in replacements before the conclusion of the transfer window.
