Jurgen Klopp reportedly holds an interest in 32-goal Barcelona winger
Liverpool could attempt to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele in the summer, according to a report from Mundo Deportivo journalist Xavier Bosch, as cited by ThinkLFCTV's Twitter account.
Bosch has claimed that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the Frenchman. The German believes that Dembele could light up Anfield with his ability on the ball.
With that being the case, Klopp would like to bring the 24-year-old to Liverpool in the summer.
Dembele's contract expires at the conclusion of the current season. Therefore, the forward will be a free agent in just over three months.
Anfield Watch Verdict
Barcelona signed Dembele from Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee of €140 million back in the 2017 summer transfer window.
However, the winger has not lived up to the price tag. Dembele has only scored 32 goals and registered 28 assists in 137 appearances for Barcelona's first-team.
In saying that, we know that the Frenchman is a better player than what the aforementioned statistics suggest. The La Liga club would not have signed Dembele for such a hefty transfer fee if he was not a world-class talent.
Also, the forward is only 24 years of age, so his career is far from finished.
Yes, Liverpool are stacked with attacking options (Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz).
But, we don't want to see the club turn down the opportunity to sign a talented youngster such as Dembele on a free transfer.
He could be a long-term replacement for one of Liverpool's current forwards. Salah, Mane and Firmino are all aged above 29. They can't represent the club forever.
Therefore, signing a player of Dembele's status would be a good move by the club. Only time will tell where his long-term future lies.
