Jurgen Klopp reflects on youth influence in Shrewsbury win

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reflected on the impact the young players had that featured in the win over Shrewsbury Town last weekend.

The Reds took on the Shrews at Anfield and overcame going down 1-0 to win 4-1, with a host of academy players featuring.

Indeed, they helped us out during a tough spell with covid and other injury issues, and the hope will be that they learn a great deal from the experience.

Jurgen Klopp had this to say on them:

"We didn't have too many options to be honest! Bobby and Taki couldn't start. That was the team to line up and it was all fine. We train and educate them and get them all the information we have on football.

"We won it with 6 Academy lads involved, so that was really big for us. It's really nice, I felt really good after the game because of so many nice stories. Step by step, that is how football education works."

Anfield Watch Verdict

It seems unlikely that many of them will feature tomorrow night against Arsenal in the EFL Cup but, even so, many can take heart from their displays last weekend.

They'll have done themselves no harm in potentially being turned to in the months ahead when possibly needed, whilst the future is the most important thing for them.
