Jurgen Klopp provides injury update on Alexis Mac Allister after knee clash
Jurgen Klopp played down fears that Alexis Mac Allister had suffered a 'major' injury in Liverpool's win over Chelsea on Wednesday.
The midfielder, who sat out the weekend's FA Cup win over Norwich as a pre-caution, came back into the starting lineup for the Premier League encounter at Anfield and put in an impressive performance from the base of midfield.
The World Cup winner finished the game with a 90% pass completion rate, while he won eight tackles against Mauricio Pochettino's side.
As noted by Squawka, in his last two Premier League outings (vs Bournemouth and Chelsea), Mac Allister has won the most tackles by a Liverpool player in the last three seasons.
However, it wasn't all positive for the No. 10 who suffered a knock after a collision with Cesare Casadei late in the second half and needed treatment from the physio.
Mac Allister finished the game but appeared in some discomfort after the incident, leading to fears he could be set for another injury layoff — having missed six games already this season with a knee issue.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Klopp allayed the concerns over Mac Allister fitness, revealing it was not a serious knock.
“Macca [was just] knee on knee,” Klopp said.
“Nothing major, nobody [from the medical staff] told me that yet.”
Klopp's words are encouraging with Liverpool facing title rivals Arsenal on Sunday, in what could be a hugely important clash for both clubs' seasons.
Meanwhile, the Reds' other deep-lying midfielder Wataru Endo is still absent on international duty, with Japan progressing to the quarter finals after beating Bahrain on Wednesday.
