Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate ahead of Manchester City's visit to Anfield on Sunday.

The Frenchman was withdrawn just after half-time during Liverpool's 5-1 victory over Sparta Prague in the Europa League on Thursday, being replaced by captain Virgil van Dijk.

The 24-year-old went down injured after being unable to sprint back to defend a counter-attack, with the decision made to substitute the influential centre-back.

There were concerns over whether Ibrahima Konate would be available for the crunch clash with Man City at the weekend and Klopp admits that he is unsure about his fitness ahead of the Anfield showdown.

Providing an injury update in his pre-match press conference, the Liverpool boss said: "Joe [Gomez] is fine. Ibou I don't know. He was rather positive last night, he thought he made the right decision at the moment but that doesn't mean a lot unfortunately.

"He will have a scan definitely, so far I don't have the results of that. All the others are fine."

When asked about Mohamed Salah's fitness specifically, Klopp added: "Mo has nothing [in terms of injuries]. He is fine."

With Erling Haaland coming into town on Sunday, Klopp will be desperate to have Konate at his disposal, although Jarell Quansah has proven an able deputy and Gomez is also an option in the heart of defence.

Konate has struggled with injuries throughout his career and has often missed big games with minor fitness concerns, which could be the case again this weekend.

However, the positive news is that no more players picked up knocks during the trip to the Czech Republic on Thursday, meaning Liverpool's squad is looking stronger than it has done in recent weeks - especially following the returns of Salah and Darwin Nunez.
