Jurgen Klopp provides explanation behind Dominik Szoboszlai absence

Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on the absence of Dominik Szoboszlai from the squad to face Arsenal.

It was revealed on Sunday morning that Szoboszlai didn't travel with the squad down to London, although the reasons for the decision were unclear.

However, Klopp has now confirmed that the Hungarian has been left out of the squad due to a muscle injury, similar to the one he had just recovered from.

Klopp told Sky Sports pre-match: “Dom felt in the same area, or pretty much a similar area, to where he was injured before.

“Not in the game, he was fine, and then after the game [he felt it] slightly so we had a look at it and there was now no chance for him to be involved in this game.

“We cannot take any risk. We have to wait for further assessment but it was clear that he cannot be involved today. That’s it, pretty much.”

Darwin Nunez was also highlighted as injury concern by Klopp prior to the match but has managed to make the bench for today's contest.

The German manager insists that Nunez's relegation to the bench was not one forced by injury, and instead reflects a tactical switch-up.

Klopp added: "No, nothing to do with intensity; games we have and stuff like this, how we start, how we use the full power of the boys and Darwin from the bench is a good thing to have as well.

"That’s just for this game how we thought it makes sense. Of course Darwin could have started but we really think when he comes on he can change a game, he can have a real impact.

"If we need that today then we have it."

The other notable omission from the matchday squad is in-form youngster Conor Bradley, who sits out the trip to Arsenal after the tragic passing of his father last week.

Klopp has reiterated his and the club's support for the Northern Irishman and his family at this incredibly difficult time.

"All of us pretty much tried to do that [support Bradley] immediately," he said.

"I think the best place for him to be is now around his family, that’s where we sent him immediately, where he went immediately.

"Very sad news and really not a lot more to say about it. I told him take your time, as much as you need, that’s clear, and then we will see what the next days bring. But he is where he has to be now, with his family."
