Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on Reds centre-back Joe Gomez.

The England international was substituted during the first-half of last night's Premier League clash between Liverpool and Southampton at St Mary's.

But, Klopp is optimistic that Gomez has not suffered a serious injury.

As quoted by the club's official website, the German said: “I hope we are lucky. Joe himself has pain but not too much.

“He got, one time, a real shock to the system, but he is sitting in the dressing room and when I spoke to him he was in a good mood. I think maybe we were probably lucky but we have to figure that out.”

However, The Athletic's James Pearce saw Gomez depart the stadium with his left foot in a protective boot.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Liverpool have been a bit unlucky with injuries as of late. The likes of Fabinho, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have picked up injuries this month.

Now, Gomez has joined the aforementioned list. Hopefully the defender can make a quick recovery. Yes, Gomez has not been a mainstay in Klopp's side this season.

The Englishman has only made 21 appearances. But, it is always good to have as many players available as possible.

You just never know when a certain footballer might be required. On another note, Gomez has been linked with a move away from Anfield due to a lack of playing time.

With Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Van Dijk ahead of Gomez in the pecking order, we would not be surprised to see the 24-year-old leave the club in the summer.

He is contracted until June 2024. Gomez possesses a current market value of £19.80 million. The summer transfer window should be interesting.
