Jurgen Klopp could set new Premier League record with win over Newcastle
Liverpool travel to Newcastle this weekend with the two teams more evenly matched than they have been in over a decade.
Last season, the Magpies finished above the Reds for the first time since 2012, while the PIF-backed side look even stronger heading at the start of the new campaign having signed the likes of Harvey Barnes and Sandro Tonali.
Most bookmakers make Newcastle slight favourites for Liverpool's visit this Sunday, despite their defeat to Premier League champions Manchester City last weekend.

While Liverpool finished below Newcastle in 2022/23, they did still beat them home and away – first with the Fabio Carvalho's dramatic stoppage-time winner at Anfield last August (2-1), before Nick Pope was sent off in the return game in February (0-2).
Those results form part of an impressive career record Jurgen Klopp has against Toon boss Eddie Howe.
Jurgen Klopp vs Eddie Howe H2H record
In total, the Liverpool boss has faced Howe 14 times to date, only losing once (12 wins, one draw). Across those games, Klopp's sides have scored 35 times (an average of 2.5 per game) compared to Howe's 10 (0.7 per game).
In addition, Klopp has won a personal career-high 11 Premier League games against Howe – including the last 10 in a row. There have been plenty of memorable moments in that time, not least Carvalho's winner.
The Reds recorded 3-0 and 2-1 victories over Bournemouth in their title-clinching 2019/20 campaign, with Howe's Cherries failing to even register a shot on target in the first meeting.
There was also a Mohamed Salah hat-trick in the 4-0 back in December 2018.
The one-time Howe got the better of Klopp came in December 2016 as Liverpool let a 2-0 lead slip at the Vitality to lose 4-3, with Nathan Ake bundling in the winner late on. Since then, however, it's been one-way traffic.
Premier League record in sight
As noted by the BBC, should he gain another victory on Sunday, Klopp would become the first ever Premier League manager to record 11 consecutive wins against one manager (overtaking Alex Ferguson against Gordon Strachan and Pep Guardiola against Howe). It's unlikely to be a record at the front of Klopp's mind this weekend, as he prepares to face of his toughest test of the season yet, but it will be welcome one all the same should he achieve it.
A win for the Reds would extend their lead over top-four rivals Newcastle to four points in the table after three rounds of fixtures.
