Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have responded to Manchester City fans chanting over the minute's silence for the victims of the Hillsborough tragedy.

Last Friday was the anniversary of one of the worst disasters in footballing history. As Liverpool do every year, the game before and after the anniversary is observed with a minute of silence.

That was the plan for Saturday's FA Cup semi-final. Unfortunately, a large section of Manchester City supporters were heard chanting after Michael Oliver blew his whistle to start the silence.

This was then met with boos and jeers from the Liverpool end, resulting in the referee cutting the minute's silence short to stop things from escalating.

Speaking after the game, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Guardiola said that the fans who were chanting 'don't represent' Manchester City.

"The club made a statement, the [fans] don't represent who we want to be. We are close to Liverpool - who went through this tragedy and I think the statement from the club represents who we are."

Klopp also responded after the game, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, by saying that they 'accept their apology'.

"Some people didn't understand the situation. It's not nice, they are wrong in the moment. But it's nothing to do with Manchester City and we accept their apology."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Credit to Manchester City for releasing their statement condemning the actions of a group of their supporters so quickly.

No one wants to see that and when it comes to disasters like this, football rivalry should be put aside for that minute.

It's a shame that a section of City fans couldn't do that but there was also a large section of their fanbase that did observe it and were also appalled by the actions of their fellow fans.

It's the same with every fanbase, there are always a few bad eggs and they don't represent the whole fanbase.
