Jurgen Klopp on Virgil van Dijk & Ryan Gravenberch absences

Jurgen Klopp has shared an update on Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch after both miss Toulouse vs Liverpool.

Neither Virgil van Dijk nor Ryan Gravenberch travelled with Liverpool to play Toulouse on Thursday in the UEFA Europa League. The Dutch pair are surprise absences - especially as Van Dijk was training.

Jurgen Klopp has explained exactly why they're missing, though. Fortunately, neither sound serious and there's even a chance that both return to play Brentford at the weekend.

"Virgil is a little bit ill should not be a big thing but didn't want to have him on the plane," he told a press conference on Wednesday evening. "That's why we left him at home. Should be alright for the weekend."

The club captain has already missed games through suspension this season. Thankfully, this one won't keep him out for multiple fixtures.

"Ryan got a little niggle in the knee," said Klopp. "Not major, running today already, but not ready for this game.

"We hope there's a chance for Brentford. Definitely back after the international break."

What a shame for Gravenberch. He was fantastic against Toulouse at Anfield and here was a chance to shine again - but he'll be back on Merseyside.

The way Klopp spoke made it sound like they won't risk him at the weekend, either, which is fair enough. Instead, this could be one to wait until after the international break.

Curtis Jones is another who misses out, much as he did against Luton Town. Klopp talked again about him here, saying that it's a "Low, low-grade hamstring [injury]" and that the Scouser will be back after the break.

Nothing too serious for Liverpool, then, and none of them should be long-term absentees. The Reds still have enough to get by Toulouse - even without some of their star performers.
