Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool's left-back conundrum after Kostas Tsimikas injury

Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool are in a spot of bother at left-back as both Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are currently out injured.

Robertson is recovering from a shoulder injury he sustained on international duty, while Tsimikas broke his collarbone in the Reds' 1-1 draw against Arsenal last weekend. With both players on the sidelines, Joe Gomez remains the natural choice to deputized at left-back, but Klopp admits the England international can't possibly play every game until Robertson returns after the turn of the year.

When asked about Liverpool's left-back conundrum, he said (quotes via Liverpool's official website): "We will see. Can Joey play all the games coming up now until – I don’t know when – Robbo will be back? Kosti is now definitely out for a while, so I don’t know, we have to see. I didn’t have time now to think it through, but somebody will play the position I am pretty sure.

"It is for us obviously really tough, it’s really tough. You have injuries sometimes and we accept all of them, but a broken collarbone is really bad because it just takes longer. Same as what Robbo had: a different injury but that takes longer as well, as we all know. We all know we need luck in these moments to get through and now we will have Joey there and just have to make sure we put him in cotton wool and we have to make sure he is always ready for the games."

Aside from Gomez, the only other left-back option Liverpool have in the squad is Luke Chambers, who is yet to make his Premier League debut for the club. The 19-year-old is obviously highly regarded by Klopp - having made his senior debut earlier this season - but is relatively untested at the top level, so he is unlikely to be thrown straight into the team.

The Reds travel to Turf Moor to take on Burnley on Boxing Day and Gomez is expected to start at left-back, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate making up the rest of the backline.
