Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool manager's record at Old Trafford against Man Utd

Jurgen Klopp will travel to Old Trafford as Liverpool manager for the final time this Sunday.

The Reds face Manchester United in the Premier League as they aim to offer their German coach the dream farewell, with Liverpool currently topping the standings with eight games to play.

However, that could all change this weekend.

Liverpool have already tasted defeat at Old Trafford this term - losing 4-3 after extra-time in the FA Cup quarter-finals - and endured a frustrating goalless draw with the Red Devils in the league meeting at Anfield earlier this term.

Klopp's record against Man Utd is far from flawless despite some significant and memorable victories, with the Reds having particularly struggled at Old Trafford during his reign.

JURGEN KLOPP'S OLD TRAFFORD RECORD

There are only three English sides that Klopp has tangled with more frequently than Man Utd - Arsenal (28), Man City (27) and Chelsea (24) - with the 56-year-old having faced the Red Devils 20 times throughout his career.

All of those meetings have come during his time in the Liverpool dugout, dating all the way back to a 1-0 defeat at Anfield during the 2015/16 campaign.

Exactly half of those clashes have taken place at Old Trafford, with history having favoured Man Utd during battles on home soil.

In fact, Klopp has won just two of his ten Old Trafford trips, although both were fairly memorable.

The first was a 4-2 victory during the 2020/21 season, where Liverpool overturned an early deficit thanks to goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah, as well as a brace from Roberto Firmino.

It was a result that helped Liverpool qualify for the Champions League that season, although it still fails to compare to the 5-0 hammering that occurred in Manchester the season after.

Salah was once again at the heart of things with a superb hat-trick, adding to goals form Jota and Naby Keita. The only frustration was that Liverpool took their foot off the gas in the second half, especially when Paul Pogba saw red with half-an-hour to play.

However, things haven't always been straightforward on the road, with the Reds having drawn four and lost four of their other eight visits to Old Trafford under Klopp.

None of those defeats have been by more than a single goal, while the draw in the Europa League during the 2015/16 campaign was as good as a win given it saw Liverpool reach the quarter-finals of the competition.

But Liverpool have lost three of their last five visits - conceding nine goals in those defeats - and have normally struggled at Old Trafford regardless of the form of their hosts.

Klopp's record suggests that Sunday's meeting won't be clear-cut despite Man Utd's current crisis, with the Liverpool boss keen for his final visit to Old Trafford to be a fruitful one.
