Jurgen Klopp is now set for a 'reunion' with an old friend when Liverpool next play in the FA Cup against Norwich City. Klopp and David Wagner go back a long way.

Liverpool will officially play against Norwich City in the FA Cup fourth round next month. The Canaries overcame Bristol Rovers in a replay on Wednesday - despite going 1-0 down.

Gabriel Sara, Adam Idah and Kenny McLean all scored second-half goals to turn things around and send Norwich through. Their prize? A trip to Anfield in the next round.

And that sets up a 'reunion' for two old friends. Managers Jurgen Klopp and David Wagner have known each other for over 20 years, having been teammates at Mainz and then working together at Borussia Dortmund. Wagner was even Klopp's best man at his wedding in 2005.

Wagner is now looking forward to seeing his old friend - someone he hasn't seen since last year.

“I haven’t checked my messages yet but I wouldn’t be surprised if Jurgen has already been in touch now we’re through,” said Wagner after beating Rovers.

“I haven’t seen Jurgen in person since his birthday party last year so it will be great to have a bit of reunion with him.

“But it’s not about us and above all it’s all about making sure my team go to Anfield and do Norwich City proud."

Of course, Wagner is right and this fixture has far more about it than just a reunion between two old friends. It is an interesting wrinkle in things, though - and will certainly feature in the buildup to the game.

The two have met as opposing managers before. Wagner was previously the boss at Huddersfield Town, earning them promotion back in 2017. That led to three Premier League meetings between the two friends - with Klopp winning all three without conceding a goal.
