Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool's 'insane' squad depth holds key to title race

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hailed the depth of his squad after Sunday's 3-1 victory over Fulham saw his team draw level on points with Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Following Thursday's elimination from the Europa League at the hands of Atalanta, Klopp opted to rest several key players, including top scorer Mohamed Salah, for the match against Fulham.

This decision proved fruitful as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota, making their first Premier League starts in two months, found the net alongside Ryan Gravenberch.

Reflecting on the game, Klopp said: "I liked the performance, I liked the options. It's a good squad situation."

For him, making so many changes wasn't a gamble at all. "We made these changes because we were 100 per cent convinced we had to; it was not a gamble. We play on Wednesday and then Saturday," he said.

Five changes

The German made five changes to his starting line-up for the trip to West London, a move that was instrumental in maintaining freshness and intensity on the field.

Klopp acknowledged the importance of fresh legs, especially after Liverpool's recent struggles, saying: "It's helped everybody. We need all of them. We need to fight through games."

Klopp highlighted the return of Alexander-Arnold and Jota in particular, arguing that their presence in the side gives Liverpool "a chance" in the title race.

Alexander-Arnold's stunning free-kick and Jota's clinical finish showcased the quality that Liverpool had been missing in recent matches.

Despite the defensive lapses that allowed Timothy Castagne to equalise for Fulham before half time, Liverpool regained control in the second half. A crucial interception by Harvey Elliott led to Gravenberch's goal, followed by Jota's milestone 100th goal in English football.

Two more away days

Looking ahead, Liverpool face two more away trips in the next six days, against local rivals Everton on Wednesday night, followed by a return to London to face West Ham on Saturday.

With just five more games remaining in Klopp's tenure at Anfield, Liverpool remain in contention for a strong finish, with vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold promising that the side will "throw the kitchen sink" at the final games.

While Manchester City are in control of their own destiny, the Liverpool manager backs his side's depth and resilience: "All of these boys have massive quality. Sometimes the momentum is there, sometimes not, but the quality is insane."
