Jurgen Klopp: Key dates in his last two months as Liverpool manager
Jurgen Klopp is now in his final two months as Liverpool manager. Here are all the key dates to keep in your calendar.
As of today, we're into the final two months of Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager. The last possible game - the UEFA Europa League final - comes on 22nd May.
The Reds will hope to be in it, of course, but there's a long way to go before then. It's also far from the only date for your calendar as some massive fixtures happen over the next couple of months.
Here are all the notable ones but first, the asterisk.
Sunday, 31 March - The run-in begins
Brighton vs LiverpoolLiverpool return from the international break on Sunday, March 31st to take on Brighton at the Amex Stadium. From here, the campaign continues uninterrupted and so this marks the start of the run-in.
It'll also mark the proper countdown for Klopp's exit.
Sunday, 7 April - Manchester United vs Liverpool
Final game vs Man United
Some of Jurgen Klopp's most memorable games have come against United. The 7-0, of course, the 5-0 at Old Trafford, the two Europa League legs back in 2016...
Here's the final one. It's a massive fixture in the title race and Liverpool are out for revenge after their defeat in the FA Cup. Expect this to be one of the most intense games remaining.
Thursday, 11 April & Thursday, 18 April - Europa League Quarters
Liverpool vs Atalanta
The sole trophy Jurgen Klopp hasn't won as Liverpool manager is the Europa League. He led the Reds to the final in his first half-season but lost to Sevilla - now he's got the chance to make up for that.
It won't be easy, of course, as Atalanta stand in their way just in the quarters. Two European legs but hopefully not the last.
Wednesday, 24 April - The last Merseyside derby
Everton vs Liverpool
This one was supposed to happen over a month prior but the Reds' cup commitments forced a rescheduling. It'll now take place midweek and between what Liverpool hope will be two European ties.
What we know for sure, though, is that this will be one of the most intense fixtures remaining for Liverpool. Everton would absolutely love to have the last word against Jurgen Klopp, while the German will want to put a bow on what has been a dominant spell against the Toffees.
Thursday, 2 May - hopefully the semis
Europa League Semi-Final First Leg
Should Liverpool get past Atalanta, they'll play either Benfica or Marseille here. The first leg will be away.
4 or 5 May - Spurs one last time
Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur
Jurgen Klopp's reign has included some enormous games against Tottenham. The Champions League final in 2019 obviously stands above all, though - the greatest night of his time as the Reds' boss.
This will be the last time he faces them, as well as the second highest-placed opponent remaining this season. Liverpool will hope to be firmly in the title race as this one comes around - it could be decisive.
And, hopefully, VAR is paying attention this time!
Note: This is currently scheduled for the 4th but would be moved to the 5th if Liverpool qualify for the Europa League semis. Or if TV companies fancy moving it.Thursday, 9 May - the other Semi
Europa League Semi-Final Second Leg
This could be an absolutely enormous game, if all goes to plan. It's also sandwiched between two of the most difficult games remaining in the Premier League.
Above all, though, this would be Klopp's final European game at Anfield. We're praying it's the occasion it can be.
11 or 12 May - Final away fixture
Aston Villa vs Liverpool
This will be Jurgen Klopp's final away game as Liverpool boss. It's also one of the most difficult of the Premier League season, with Villa absolutely flying.
They'll likely be the highest-placed team remaining on the Reds' Premier League fixture list. Of course, a lot can change between now and then but as things stand, this could be title-defining.
Sunday, 19th May - Final Anfield fixture
Liverpool vs Wolves
No matter what happens, this will be the most emotional game of the season. It will be Jurgen Klopp's final Premier League game as Liverpool manager and, more importantly, his final Anfield fixture.
There will be tears but if the storybook ending happens, there will be a trophy lift, too. We're not prepared for this one. No one is. But we're also hoping it isn't his final game.
Wednesday, 22nd May - Europa League final
The dream ending in Dublin
If all does go to plan, this will be Jurgen Klopp's final match as Liverpool manager. The Reds do need to get there first, though, with both quarter-finals and semi-finals standing in their way.
It's the one trophy he hasn't delivered and there's a chance he finishes on it. Possible opponents are AC Milan, AS Roma, West Ham United or Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen...
