Jurgen Klopp asks Jarell Quansah to ignore social media abuse after Man Utd error

Jurgen Klopp has said that he hopes Jarell Quansah is 'smart enough' to ignore social media after his error against Manchester United, with the defender having already taken action on Instagram to avoid abuse. 

It was the young centre-back's errant pass that led to Bruno Fernandes' equaliser at Old Trafford - a goal that turned the game on its head with Liverpool having previously been in complete control.

The Reds ended up drawing the match 2-2 despite having dominated the majority of the game, sacrificing their lead in the title race.

It's the most notable mistake that the 21-year-old has made during his mightily impressive debut season with the Liverpool first team, the defender having made an enormous step up after spending half of last season on loan at League One Bristol Rovers.

Disappointingly, Quansah has been on the receiving end of abuse on social media following his error and has even restricted his Instagram comments as a result.

However, Klopp refused to blame the youngster for Sunday's result at Old Trafford, insisting that he must avoid social media in the coming days.

Speaking after the game, Klopp stated: "As a football player in the Premier League and playing for Liverpool, I have the bad news it will not be the last mistake in his life, unfortunately.

"That’s how life is. I thought he dealt extremely well with it, we dealt well with it. But when our idols in the past made these kinds of mistakes there was no social media, so I hope he’s smart enough to switch that off.

"Don’t read the Daily Mail or whatever, where they go for people in these moments and make it personal. He dealt extremely well with it and that’s part of the game."

One mistake will certainly not define what has been a tremendous season for Quansah, who has shown incredible quality and maturity in his displays for the Reds.

The Warrington-born academy product has shown enormous potential, filling in for Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip with little fuss this term.

Liverpool now have seven games of the Premier League season remaining and sit level on points with Arsenal, albeit behind them on goal difference. Manchester City are just a point off the Reds now after their victory against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
