Jurgen Klopp is reportedly keen on a Chelsea centre-back who is a free agent next summer
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly interested in signing Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger, according to El Nacional, as cited by LFC Transfer Room's Twitter account.
The report states that the German is prepared to offer the 28-year-old a deal that would earn him much more than his current £100,000 a week contract at Stamford Bridge.
Rudiger's contract expires in June 2022. As things stand, the Germany international will be a free agent as of next summer.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Rudiger would be a fine addition to Liverpool's squad. The centre-back has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.01 in the early stages of the 2021-22 Premier League campaign, which highlights that he is a good footballer.
Rudiger is also an experienced defender. The 28-year-old has made 169 appearances for Chelsea.
But, we do find it hard to believe that Klopp is looking to sign another centre-back. The 54-year-old already has Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate and Nathaniel Phillips at his disposal.
