Jurgen Klopp has his say on "awful defending" and "beautiful goals" after Fulham win

Jurgen Klopp has reflected on Liverpool's memorable 4-3 victory over Fulham at Anfield on Sunday afternoon and it's fair to say it was a game of mixed emotions for the 56-year-old.

The Reds needed two late goals from Wataru Endo and Trent Alexander-Arnold to complete an astounding comeback against the Cottagers, the latter netting the winner with two minutes of normal time remaining.

Bernd Leno's own goal gave Liverpool the lead in the first half and Alexis Mac Allister's strike put the Reds back in front after former Red Harry Wilson had scored for the visitors. Kenny Tete had equalised again before half-time, with Bobby Decordova-Reid netting a third for Fulham with ten minutes to go.

However, Endo and Alexander-Arnold came up trumps for Liverpool in a crucial turnaround, the Reds moving back to within touching distance of table-toppers Arsenal.

Speaking after the win over Fulham in his post-match press conference, Klopp reflected on a breathless game, and there were positives and negatives to take from the encounter for the German.

"I don't think I've ever seen a game with this amount of beautiful goals," Klopp told Sky Sports (via BBC Sport). "But, because we were a bit dumb, we almost gave it away. In the first half, when we gave the goals away, the defending was awful.

"Football is decided in the details. We were really good in the game and played a lot of good stuff, but it was 2-2 at half-time and deserved.

"They were there and scored a wonderful goal and it was 3-2 and everyone in a Fulham shirt thought that was it maybe, and then we throw back with two worldies."

He added: "We changed system a couple of times. There were tight moments, a lot of credit to Fulham, they had a really good idea, when we lost momentum they were there to cause us problems.

"Today the big shadow on the game is Joel Matip. A really unlucky situation, but it doesn't look good. I am pretty sure he will be out. We have to get through this, this was a good start to the busy period."

Klopp will have loved and hated what he saw at Anfield on Sunday but the Reds will need to improve defensively moving forward if they are to challenge for the Premier League title.

Liverpool are in action next against Sheffield United on Wednesday, followed by a trip to Crystal Palace next Saturday.
