Jurgen Klopp praised his vice captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, after the 25-year-old's match-winning turn in Liverpool's dramatic win over Fulham on Sunday.

The Reds came back from 3-2 down to win 4-3 in a chaotic encounter at full of drama and goal-of-the-season contenders at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold scored from a free kick (though it was later credited as a Bernd Leno own goal) to open the scoring, before former Liverpool player Harry Wilson pulled it back to 1-1.

Alexis Mac Allister then opened his Liverpool account with a sensational 25-yard drive into the top corner, but the scores were level again by half-time with Kenny Tete finding an equaliser.

It looked as though Fulham might have sneaked an unlikely victory on 80 minutes when Bobby De Cordova-Reid made it 3-2. The Reds were still trailing with less than five minutes left on the clock, before a quick-fire comeback with goals from Wataru Endo and Alexander-Arnold, which sparked wild celebrations from players and fans alike.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Klopp reserved special praise for 'real leader' Alexander-Arnold, who has now scored key goals in consecutive Premier League matches.

"I'm not sure I have to say anything about that. Nobody is in doubt how highly I think about Trent," Klopp said.

"He plays here since I'm here pretty much – longer, of course, but with the first team pretty much since I'm here. The development is crazy. His shooting skills we knew before. It's now a while ago, I think, that he scored with a free-kick, so it would not be bad if we could do that better – for that we need fouls around that area, we don't have that a lot.

"Today he was a real leader on the pitch – that's probably the biggest improvement, if you want. Because it was super-intense but it got kind of another push when you put him a bit more inside in that moment.

"He's so often in these positions, there is no change really. He's very often in half-spaces in the centre and stuff like this. So it was just really good. But he was a real leader on the pitch – that was most important."
