Jurgen Klopp lavished praise on Jarell Quansah for his performance in Liverpool's 3-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In the absence of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate - who was on the bench and came on late in the second half - Quansah earned his first start for the club and lasted 82 minutes before being forced off with a cramp. The young Englishman started alongside Joel Matip at the heart of the defence and enhanced his reputation with a mature display as the Reds staged another impressive comeback to secure all three points.

Hwang Hee-chan opened the scoring for Wolves with a close-range finish, but second-half strikes from Cody Gakpo, Andy Robertson, and an own goal from Hugo Bueno turned the tide in Liverpool's favor as they made it four wins and a draw from five Premier League games this season.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Klopp admitted that Quansah made a 'statement' on his full debut, adding that he was the only one who looked alright in what was a dismal first-half showing from his side.

He said (quotes via This is Anfield): “He did well, eh? He did really well, was really good. It’s a nice, wonderful experience for him. He came on now always in very decisive moments. It’s not that he came on to close games or whatever, we had to do something there.

“Today he was good, I have to say. In such a disorganised team like we were in the first half, being the one who looks kind of alright is a statement, absolutely. So really happy for him, he’s obviously pretty happy in the moment as well. Good boy.”

“He did exceptionally well. In possession as well he was calm. It was like we had just met in the car park before the game with the organisation in the first half!"

Quansah was withdrawn with eight minutes left on the clock for Konate, who made his return after missing the last two games due to a hamstring injury. The 20-year-old is likely to keep his place in the team as Liverpool travel to Austria to take on LASK in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League.
