Jurgen Klopp gives Minamino and Firmino update
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has given an update on the fitness of Takumi Minamino and Roberto Firmino as the two featured against Shrewsbury Town on Sunday afternoon following respective lay-offs.
Goals from Kaide Gordon, Firmino and Fabinho provided the Reds a 4-1 win against the Shrews at Anfield, with them overcoming an early shock to the system after the away side had gone into a 1-0 lead.
It was an important match for some players to get minutes into their legs, too, after respective injury and covid lay-offs and Klopp had this to say on both Minamino and Firmino:
Anfield Watch Verdict
Both Firmino and Minamino have important parts to play in the next few weeks in particular, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both missing because of AFCON participation.
Indeed, we need every member of the squad to stand up and be counted as we look to challenge across four competitions in the coming months, and our next game against Arsenal is certainly important on that front.
There's every chance this pair will be involved in the game with the Gunners at Anfield and if they are they will need to be at their best to give the Reds an early lead in the tie, with the away leg at the Emirates Stadium on January 20th.
Certainly, Klopp will be happy that the pair are back involved after recent absences and in the next few weeks we can surely expect them both to be involved considerably in terms of playing time across competitions.
