Jurgen Klopp reveals what's stopping him to from taking 'interesting' Germany job

Jurgen Klopp has spoken out on the prospect of managing the German national team one day, calling the job 'interesting'.

Since even before his arrival at Anfield, Klopp has been speculated about as a future Germany manager — yet has largely resisted talking publicly about the role.

However, in a panel discussion in his home country on Thursday, the Reds manager admitted the job would be an 'honour', while he is keeping his options post-Liverpool open.

“The job of national coach is and would be a great honour - there's no question about that,” said the 56-year-old, via Sky.de. “The problem that stands in the way of the whole thing is my loyalty. I can't just leave Liverpool now and say I'll take over Germany for a short time. That doesn't work and the request isn't even there.

“If I'm supposed to do that at some point, then I have to be available and I'm not currently. I have a responsibility towards the club.

“Basically, it's an interesting job. But I don't know yet whether I'll do something completely different after I leave Liverpool. I want to keep my options open.”

Klopp was speaking in a discussion held by the Fischer group of companies on their the 75^th anniversary. The German boss acts as a brand ambassador for the group, where his father worked for over 30 years.

Due to Liverpool’s pre-season training camp in Donaueschingen, Klopp was able to make the short trip back to his old home in the Black Forest.

Now in his eighth year at Liverpool, Klopp has cemented himself in folklore, leading Liverpool to both Premier League and Champions League success, including FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup wins.

Former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick is the current Germany men's national team coach, having signed a three-year deal in 2021. However, after Die Mannschaft were eliminated in the group stages of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, pressure is on to perform at Euro 2024, which Germany will host.

Even if the five-time World Cup winners are seeking a new manager in a year's time, however, it's unlikely Klopp will be in the frame, having extended his Liverpool contract until 2026.
