Jurgen Klopp expects Egypt to release Mohamed Salah for injury treatment

Jurgen Klopp has called for the Egyptian FA to release Mohamed Salah from AFCON, so to allow the player to receive appropriate treatment for his injury.

Salah was forced off in Egypt's 2-2 draw with Ghana last week due to a hamstring problem, with the Pharaohs' confirming that their captain would be unavailable for at least the next two games.

This means he will miss Egypt's make-or-break game against group leaders Cape Verde, with there a feeling that a win will be needed to prevent a shock exit.

Klopp believes the best course of action is to take Salah out of the Ivory Coast for the time being to give him the best treatment, adding that he would be happy to send the winger back if Egypt were to progress to the latter stages of the tournament.

“That’s the plan,” Klopp said after Liverpool’s 4-0 victory away to Bournemouth.

“If that’s already decided 100 per cent, I don’t know. But that’s the plan. I think probably everybody sees it makes sense that he’s doing the rehab with us or with our people.

“That’s the plan. But if it’s written in stone already, I don’t know.”

Speaking on the game at the Vitality Stadium, Klopp has revealed that a change in tactics was key to Liverpool's turnaround in fortunes after the break, with it very much being a game of two halves.

"The second half was much better," Klopp told Sky Sports.

"The opponent was in a good moment and I actually thought we made a bad start. We gave them momentum unnecessarily.

"We were not flexible enough, went long when we should have gone short and short when we should have gone long. The left side was completely static.

"But I told the boys at half-time it was good news. We hadn't been great but it was still 0-0.

"We changed formation and all of a sudden we were much more fluent. The support for the front line was much better. We were calm."
