Jurgen Klopp has delivered a pessimistic injury update on Cody Gakpo after he was substituted at halftime in Liverpool's 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur away from home.

The Dutchman scored a brilliant equalizer from close range just before the interval but immediately hit the ground as he was seen grimacing in pain. It initially looked like Gakpo injured himself while scoring the goal, but Klopp suggested that he actually hurt himself earlier in the first half, possibly after a challenge from Tottenham's Destiny Udogie.

Speaking after the game, Klopp claimed that Gakpo was in a brace as he limped down the corridor at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He said (quotes via Liverpool's official website): "The biggest problem of the game, to be honest... before Cody Gakpo scored, we got a free-kick and he got injured and he is now with a brace limping down the corridor.

"That's my biggest problem, to be honest, in this moment. We lost two [to red cards] and maybe a third player - really bad, really bad. So, yes, that's something we have to deal with obviously."

Asked if the injury for Gakpo was a 'bad one', Klopp added: "Possibly, I don't know. He wore a brace. After that shot, he felt it even more. It was from the foul before."

Judging by Klopp's comments, Gakpo is unlikely to be available for Liverpool's UEFA Europa League group stage clash against Belgian Pro League side Union Saint-Gilloise. The Reds are waiting to discover the extent of his injury, with the Dutch forward expected to have a scan in the coming days. Liverpool, though, will have Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota available for selection despite their red cards against Tottenham as their suspension only applies to domestic fixtures.
