Jurgen Klopp could continue incredible records with Newcastle win
Jurgen Klopp has tended to enjoy clashes with Newcastle United since becoming Liverpool boss over eight years ago.
This season proved no different for the German, Darwin Nunez's late brace securing a memorable win for ten-man Liverpool at St James' Park in August.
The Uruguayan produced two fine finishes following captain Virgil van Dijk's first-half red card to secure a 2-1 victory, a result Klopp labelled "rare and super special".
August 2022 was similarly dramatic during an Anfield meeting, Fabio Carvalho's 98th-minute strike offering Liverpool another impressive win over the Magpies.
Liverpool welcome Newcastle to Merseyside on New Year's Day as they look to further cement their spot at the top of the Premier League table, while Klopp will also be aiming to continue his impressive record against the Magpies and their boss Eddie Howe.
JURGEN KLOPP RECORD VS NEWCASTLE
Klopp has clashed with the Magpies on 15 occasions in the past and boasts an imperious record against the Toon Army. In fact, Klopp has won 10, drawn four and lost just one of his previous meetings with Newcastle.
That defeat came in his first battle with them back in December 2015, meaning that Klopp currently boasts a 14-game unbeaten run against Newcastle.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager has only drawn two of his last 12 meetings - both of which came in the 2020/21 season - and has won his last five against the Magpies.
In 15 games, Klopp's Liverpool have conceded just 13 goals, never letting in more than two against next Monday's opponents.
Klopp has averaged 2.27 points per match against Newcastle, making them one of his favourite Premier League foes.
JURGEN KLOPP RECORD VS EDDIE HOWE
Klopp has enjoyed meetings with Howe more than any other manager, having faced him 15 times in the Premier League during stints at Bournemouth and Newcastle.
Of those clashes, Klopp has lost one, drawn one and won 13, the most victories the 56-year-old has against a single manager over the course of his career.
If Liverpool were to beat Newcastle next Monday, Klopp will have won 12 straight matches against Howe, extending the current Premier League record the German has for consecutive victories against Newcastle's manager.
Klopp's impressive stats against Newcastle and Howe should offer Liverpool supporters hope for the first game of 2024.
