Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Alisson Becker is likely to miss Liverpool's next four games, while Diogo Jota's injury is 'more severe'.

The Reds' Brazilian goalkeeper sustained a hamstring injury during the closing stages of the Reds' 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Saturday, though completed the game without being substituted.

Alisson had featured twice for Brazil during the November international break, playing the full 90 minutes in his country's 1-0 defeat to Argentina less than 72 hours before the Premier League tie at the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool's Europa League clash with LASK on Thursday, Klopp confirmed that both Alisson and Jota – who also picked up an issue against City – will be unavailable for selection for the near future.

“Both are out,” said Klopp, when asked of the pair. “With Ali it’s a bit lesser, so we have to see – not day by day, he will not play tomorrow, not on Sunday, probably not the week after. Then it should be kind of OK.

“Diogo will take a little bit longer, we don’t know exactly how long, but it’s a bit more severe. We have to see.”

On whether Alisson’s injury was not as bad as some feared, Klopp replied: “No, but bad enough. Bad enough.”

Alisson was always set to be rested for Thursday's clash with LASK, with Caoimhin Kelleher the preferred keeper in the cups. However, Klopp's comments suggest he will also be absent for the Premier League clashes with Fulham (3 December), Sheffield United (6 December) and Crystal Palace (9 December).

This timeline would, however, put Alisson on course to be fit to return for the Reds showdown with Manchester United at Anfield on 17 December.

Klopp provided no specific timeline for Jota's return, with the Portuguese forward limping off (also with a hamstring issue) in the draw at City. However, it appears likely that Liverpool's second top scorer so far this season will be a major doubt for the rest of the calendar year.
